Aamir Khan reveals he was NOT approached for Shah Rukh Khan's ‘DDLJ’; why he rejected ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and said,'Ismein Salman Khan hona chahiye'

The hit film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ starring Salman Khan became a huge success when it came out in 2015. It is still one of Salman’s most loved movies. But did you know the story was first offered to Aamir Khan? Yes, that’s right! Aamir recently opened up about why he turned down the film and why he thought Salman was the right choice.Aamir’s honest take on ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’In a chat with Mashable India, Aamir Khan spoke about some films he refused over the years. When asked about ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, he said, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan mere paas aayi thi. Aur kahaani sunke…ye bhi appreciate karo meri sachhai…Kahaani sunke maine Vijayendra (screenwriter) ji ko bola ‘Sir, ismein Salman hona chahiye’.” This means that after hearing the story, Aamir honestly told the screenwriter that Salman Khan should play the lead role.He went on to explain, “Toh ultimately wo Salman ke paas nahi gaye, wo gaye Kabir Khan (director) ke paas. And Kabir went to Salman. But that was my first response when the script came to me. I said nahi I am not doing it. This you should take to Salman.” So, instead of taking the role himself, Aamir suggested the team approach Salman through the director Kabir Khan.Aamir clears the air on other filmsDuring the same interview, Aamir was also asked about other popular films he had said no to.

When asked about the film ‘Josh’, he jokingly said, “Josh maine mana nahi ki yaar. Josh ka mat pucho.”There were also rumours that he was offered Shah Rukh Khan’s role in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. Aamir cleared this up by saying, “I was never approached for the film.” According to him, the role was always meant for Shah Rukh.On the work front, Aamir Khan is all set to make his big-screen return with ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, releasing on 20 June 2025. The film is a spiritual sequel to his much-loved 2007 classic ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and marks his comeback after nearly three years away from cinemas.
