After hitting theatres on May 23, 2025, Vijay Sethupathi’s latest venture ‘Ace’ has now made its way to OTT.Directed by a fresh voice in Tamil cinema, the film blends quirky humour with suspense and drama, offering a layered narrative that swings between light-hearted romance and gritty crime.Streaming detailsWhile Ace received mixed reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office, the film is now getting a second life on OTT, where audiences can enjoy it from the comfort of their homes. The romantic crime comedy is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, less than a month after its theatrical release. Plot: A botched heist changes everything‘Ace’ follows the story of Kannan (played by Vijay Sethupathi), a man trying to rebuild his life abroad with new dreams and aspirations.

However, things take an unexpected turn when he gets involved in a failed heist. This misstep throws him into a chaotic criminal underworld, where every move is a game of survival.

As the narrative unfolds, Kannan is forced to use wit and instinct to navigate through deceit, danger, and complex relationships. The story is laced with dark humour, adding an offbeat tone to the otherwise intense proceedings. His journey is as much about escaping crime as it is about confronting personal truths.

Stellar castApart from Vijay Sethupathi’s charismatic presence, ‘Ace’ features a strong supporting cast including Rukmini Vasanth—best known for her breakout role in Sapta Sagaradaache Ello. The film also stars popular names like Yogi Babu, BS Avinash, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Divya Pillai, and Ramesh Thilak. A Passable Crime Caper That Doesn't Demand Much From Its Actors & AudienceETimes gave the Vijay Sethupathi starrer a rating of 3 out of 5 and our review reads, “And the cast helps.

Even if he’s on autopilot, Vijay Sethupathi injects some charisma into the role, and has lowkey fun with material that’s less demanding of the actor in him, much like how Kamal Haasan used to in films like Guru and Sattam in the 1980s. Rukmini, in her Tamil debut, passes muster; while her expressions are spot on, her lip-sync, though, is quite off in many places.

To give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe her lines were rewritten during the dubbing stage. Babloo Prithveeraj and BS Avinash are okayish as the antagonists while Divya Pillai has little to do in an underwritten role. Thankfully, Yogi Babu is in good form here, and it is his comic counters that make the film entertaining to the extent it is.”Whether you're a fan of Sethupathi’s unconventional roles or simply in the mood for a genre-bending film, ‘Ace’ might be just what your OTT watchlist needs this weekend.
