Bollywood actor
Aditya Roy Kapur
, who has experienced quite some bad years at the box office, recently opened up about his career journey.
He started in 2009 with the film '
London Dreams
' but initially struggled to gain attention and fame due to roles that didn't quite hit the mark. It was films like 'Aashiqui 2,' 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,' and '
Kalank
' that finally brought him the recognition he deserved.
In a recent interview with Film Companion, Aditya shared his experiences dealing with failures. When asked if he ever felt demotivated or thought of giving up, he revealed that he tried to keep such negative thoughts at bay. He acknowledged that there were moments when doubts crept in, especially after a disappointing weekend, but he emphasized the importance of pushing through and fighting on.
Starting his career with films that didn't perform well, he got familiar with that feeling early on. He admitted that negativity and self-doubt do sneak in, but he's learned to brush them aside and get back to work.
When asked if he ever gave in to those negative feelings, he confidently said, ‘clearly not. I'm doing this interview here.’
Aditya also talked about taking breaks in his career, mentioning that after 'Ok Jaanu' in 2017, he didn't set foot on a movie set for two years. He recounted how he returned to work with the film 'Kalank,' directed by Abhishek Varman, after a two-year hiatus. Aditya emphasized the importance of self-belief during those tough periods, understanding that success and setbacks are all part of the journey.
He explained that although work opportunities were coming his way, he couldn't find anything he liked, leading to an extended period without work.
In the same interview, he was asked about his physique and fitness, which often play a prominent role in his movies. Aditya is known for his good looks and has been praised for his appearance. When asked if he ever feels objectified due to this, he responded with a casual ‘No’. He further added that there is no objection in that. He explained that he sees it as a part of his job and doesn't take it too seriously.
Aditya shared that his journey with being objectified began when he started his career as a VJ for Channel V. In fact, his first promo involved him taking off his shirt at Agonda Beach in Goa. He mentioned that this objectification has been a part of his career from the very beginning and, in a visual medium like the entertainment industry, it's a positive aspect to be able to fulfill those expectations.
When asked about the toll it takes to maintain a certain physique, Aditya clarified that he doesn't follow a strict diet all the time. He enjoys eating a variety of foods, but when preparing for a role, he focuses on achieving the specific physique required for the character.
