Singer Adnan Sami, known for delivering iconic hits in the early 2000s, has once again opened up about his dramatic weight-loss journey. At the peak of his career, the singer weighed 230 kgs and was battling a host of health issues that doctors warned could turn fatal.
Speaking to India TV in a recent interaction, Sami revisited those difficult years and revealed the emotional moment that motivated him to change his life.Sami said that his weight had become so critical that doctors warned him his lifestyle could lead to sudden death. Recalling a particularly jarring visit to the doctor alongside his father, he shared, “Doctors told me that if I continued this lifestyle, they wouldn’t be surprised if my parents found me dead in a hotel room in six months.”
While the warning was shocking, Sami admitted he initially brushed it off, even getting angry that the doctor said such a thing in front of his father.'Aren’t you scared of God?' – Father's words that struck a chordInstead of taking the doctor's advice seriously, Sami confessed that he headed straight to a bakery and indulged in sweets. His father, visibly upset, confronted him and asked if he wasn’t even scared of God.
“He rebuked me for ignoring what the doctor said and I told him, ‘Doctors keep saying things,’” Sami admitted. That night, however, a heartfelt conversation with his father became the real wake-up call. His father pleaded with him not to let his parents bury their child, saying it should be the other way around. “He said, ‘Please don’t have me bury my own child. You have to bury me, not the other way around,’” Sami recalled, adding that seeing tears in his father's eyes moved him deeply.
He promised then and there to take control of his health — a promise he kept by shedding 120 kgs.

No surgeries, just strict diet and disciplineOver the years, speculation has surrounded Sami’s drastic weight loss, with many assuming he underwent bariatric or liposuction surgery. However, he firmly denied those rumours, stating that his transformation was purely the result of a disciplined high-protein diet recommended by his nutritionist. The diet, he said, excluded sugar, oil, alcohol, rice, and bread. He began seeing results quickly — losing 20 kgs in the first month alone. “I went on the diet and I started reducing weight,” he said, underlining that there were no shortcuts involved in his journey.Health complications due to obesity were severeThe singer also opened up about the physical toll his weight took on him. For several years, he couldn’t lie down to sleep because the fat in his body would compress his lungs, making it difficult to breathe. This led to further complications such as water retention in his legs and Lymphedema, a condition that causes swelling due to a build-up of lymph fluid.
