It made Rs 30 lakh on day 2 and now the total collection of the movie according to Pinkvilla is Rs 55 lakh. The film had alreadys sold 5500 tickets in the top three national chains - Inox and Cinepolis, for the opening day and saw some growth on Saturday. One can see more growth in Sunday numbers. Meanwhile, Akshay's 'Kesari 2' is dominating over all the other releases like 'Jaat' and 'Ground Zero' as it made Rs 7 crore on Saturday.
When the film originally released in 1994, it had made a lifetime collection of Rs 5.15 crore net in India. The worldwide gross collection of the film was Rs 7.59 crore. This number is considered good as it was 30 years ago. Yet, during that time, the film was considered a flop. But director Rajkumar Santoshi had said that the film cannot be called a failure as there were reasons why it had that response at the box office.
He said during a chat with Doordarshan a while ago, "I wouldn’t use harsh words like it was a flop, it wasn’t a flop. It didn’t get the kind of response what we expected. Later, people started liking it. It grew with word of mouth and as it was growing with publicity, it was taken off the theatres because the distributors didn’t have faith in it. They thought it won’t work."
