Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly pulled the plug on their romance after nearly 8 years together. The couple who has been in an off-and-on relationship for nearly a decade, have now ended things again, and this time, insiders say it’s for good.According to multiple sources cited by PEOPLE, the Materialists actress, and the Coldplay frontman, have broken up again. Representatives for both stars have not yet confirmed or denied the news. The couple, who were first linked in 2017, were last seen publicly on May 16 during a casual outing in Malibu. Earlier this year, they were photographed holding hands and walking about the busy streets of Mumbai, while in India for Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour.
Although at the time, they were plagued with break-up rumours, the two were spotted by fans looking loved up as they headed out on quiet romantic walks late evening, exploring the bylanes of the city.
Rumours of an engagement had also been rife back in 2020, with a source confirming to PEOPLE in March 2024 that they had been engaged for “years,” though they were in “no rush” to marry. When breakup speculation surfaced in August 2024, Johnson’s rep had denied the claims, insisting the couple were “happily together.”
At the time, sources suggested they were navigating the challenges of balancing two busy careers, but still deeply committed.“They’ve had issues and taken breaks in the past,” a source shared last year, “but things were great. They were trying to make it work.” Another source had described the relationship as full of “ups and downs,” yet stable — until now.News of the break up comes amidst the release of Daota's romantic film Materialists, co-starring Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. The film, set to hit theatres on June 13 has been directed by Celine Song. Martin was previously married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The two co-parent their two kids Apple and Moses.
