can now opt to take their exams at their respective universities, unlike in the past when the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) were responsible for conducting end-term proctored exams for SWAYAM courses.

To aid higher education institutions in implementing this new framework, the UGC has made available two documents: the "University Dashboard User Guide" and the "Steps for Adopting SWAYAM MOOC Courses." These materials are intended to guide colleges in registering for courses on the SWAYAM platform and incorporating virtual learning into their students' academic transcripts.

Under the UGC's new framework, universities that have adopted the UGC SWAYAM Regulations 2021 are now permitted to conduct

end-term examinations

for SWAYAM courses directly at their institutions. This new provision is designed to increase accessibility and convenience, allowing students to take their SWAYAM exams at their own universities.
Examination evaluation, weightage
The assessment for SWAYAM courses is divided into two components: the end-term examination, which carries a weightage of 70%, and assignments or quizzes conducted by the SWAYAM Course Coordinator, which constitute the remaining 30%. This structured weightage ensures a balanced evaluation of a student's performance, combining both continuous assessment and final examination results.

Eligibility criteria for end-term examinations
To be eligible for the end-term examinations conducted by the universities, students must have completed the entire SWAYAM course and submitted at least 75% of the required assignments and quizzes. This criterion emphasises the importance of consistent participation and engagement throughout the course duration.
Responsibilities of the nodal officer
The framework specifies that a Nodal Officer will be appointed to oversee the administration of SWAYAM courses within each institution. The Nodal Officer's responsibilities include monitoring student progress, ensuring eligibility for examinations, and uploading marks on the SWAYAM portal. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the assessment process.
Students to get opportunities for re-attempt
The new framework also allows students to re-attempt end-term examinations if they fail to pass or are unable to appear for the exams. This provision introduces flexibility, encouraging more students to pursue credits through SWAYAM courses by providing them with additional chances to succeed.
Procedure for transfer credits
The document outlines the procedure for transferring marks and credits earned through SWAYAM courses to students' university transcripts. This ensures that students receive official recognition for their academic efforts and the credits they have earned through online learning.
