 Viveck Vaswani reveals the story

There have been speculations about Shah Rukh Khan's

Carter Road house

, Amrit, being up for redevelopment. Here's what

Viveck Vaswani

shared with Etimes about how the superstar acquired the house.

Viveck Vaswani said, "Until Shah Rukh Khan got married, he lived in my house. After he married, Aziz had an empty flat in Devdutt, next to The Taj Lands End. It was a nice flat, but after Aziz’s wife left her job at TIFR, they had to move back to Devdutt."

He further explained, "So, Shah Rukh and Gauri moved to a 1RK flat in Asuda Kutri in Mount Mary, but he couldn’t possibly live in a one-room kitchen. When Prem Lalwani offered him Guddu, Shah Rukh told him, ‘I want 40 lakhs to buy a flat. You give me one cheque, I’ll buy the flat, and give you blocked dates.’ So, Prem gave him 40 lakhs, and Shah Rukh bought Amrit, which belonged to Mamaji, aka AK Talwar, who was Rajesh Khanna's maternal uncle. The film industry used to call him Mamaji. SRK paid AK Talwar and bought Amrit. He did Guddu, Prem Lalwani was happy, Shah Rukh and Gauri were happy. It was the bulk money made from Guddu that allowed SRK to buy the flat in Amrit."
