In comparing the placement records of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur for their 5-year UG programs from 2020-21 to 2022-23, IIT Kharagpur consistently shows a higher number of placements and median salaries. In 2020-21, IIT Kharagpur placed 27 out of 38 graduates with a median salary of Rs. 9 lakh, while IIT Roorkee placed 11 out of 31 with a median salary of Rs. 10 lakh. In 2021-22, IIT Kharagpur saw a sharp increase with 33 out of 37 placed at a median salary of Rs. 12.6 lakh, compared to IIT Roorkee's 27 out of 30 with a consistent Rs. 10 lakh median salary. By 2022-23, IIT Kharagpur further improved, placing 26 out of 32 graduates with a significant median salary rise to Rs. 16 lakh, whereas IIT Roorkee placed 9 out of 25 graduates with a reduced median salary of Rs. 9.25 lakh. IIT Roorkee had more students opting for higher education across all years, while IIT Kharagpur had a much stronger placement performance, especially in 2022-23.
