NEW DELHI: While Israel continues to pound Gaza with its incessant airstrikes on Hamas settlements, the
Israeli defence force
bulldozed a pizza outlet, which mocked an Israeli holocaust survivor, who has been taken
hostage
by Hamas terrorists, reported The Times of Israel.
The demolition was reportedly carried out on the orders of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "he was personally involved in the move".
The move comes days after the pizza outlet posted an advertisement on Facebook, featuring an undated photo of the woman making a victory sign alongside a pizza with the message -- “You are welcome” -- to customers.
Sentiments were running high against the pizza outlet, and people demanded that the eatery be demolished over the post.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) arrived at the scene and razed the front of the shop before eventually sealing it.
Central Command head Yehuda Fox signed a military order directing the pizzeria to be closed for five months due to incitement and support for terror activities, according to The Times of Israel.
Later, the outlet issued an apology on Facebook, claiming "someone else had published the ad without its knowledge in order to harm the shop".
“We are against harming men and women and just want to earn a living with dignity and live in peace with everyone. We are very sorry to the members of our family and others who were hurt,” the statement read.
The death toll in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank has reached 2450, while more than 1,400 people have been killed in Israel since.
Israel has told 1.1 million people in northern Gaza to leave for the south of the territory and thousands were still using safe routes designated by Israel to seek safety on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Israel has been facing pressure from the United Nations and its allies to hold back on any invasion until civilians have been given every chance to leave.
