PhD admissions at JNU will be based on scores from NET (UGC-CSIR), JRF, or GATE, depending on the specific programme. Applicants must submit separate applications based on their eligibility under these categories. Notably, candidates applying through JRF must register specifically under the JRF category, while those with GATE scores are eligible to apply only for PhD programmes offered by the School of Engineering.
This year, JNU has aligned its PhD admission process with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by accepting NET scores instead of conducting its in-house PhD entrance exam, the JNU Entrance Exam (JNUEE). The decision to reinstate the university's entrance exam faced delays due to a lack of feedback from school deans, further reinforcing the reliance on national-level exams for the 2024 admission cycle.
