The Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan film has a decent start on day 1, will strongly depend on word of mouth

Akshay Kumar's 'Kesari Chapter 2' has released in cinemas today, on April 18. The film sees the actor play the role of

C. Sankaran Nair

, a brave Indian lawyer who took on the British Empire in court. As far as the box office is concerned, this film is obviously not in the same genre as massy movies like 'Sikandar', so a huge opening number wasn't expected. However, the advances looked pretty encouraging and it all depends on positive word of mouth.

Expected day 1 numbers on Good Friday

On day 1, the film may be expected to make in the range of Rs 7 to 8 crore. According to Sacnilk, it had earned around Rs 3 crore in the advance ticket sales. On Friday, up till afternoon, the movie has garnered around Rs 1.59 crore so far. A lot will depend on the 'spot' bookings for the film which will come from positive word of mouth. One can also expect the film to see some growth over the weekend as the early reviews on social media look good. There is a holiday on 'Good Friday' for some parts, hence, which may help in more footfalls in the night shows. Last year, 'Crew' had released on 'Good Friday' and this Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, Kriti Sanon starrer did pretty well due to the holiday.
However, one does not expect really huge numbers as the film comes in the niche category, but again, a lot will depend on word of mouth. It is expected to do better in multiplexes in cities like Mumbai, Delhi. However, according to Box Office India, since has a regional base, the numbers from the Punjab circuit will largely matter. Although, the initial buzz and numbers of '

Kesari 2

' are better than many of the recent Akshay Kumar movies which have flopped.
