Madhuri Dixit's husband, Dr
Sriram Nene
, recently shared insights into his early life, including his rebellious college days and the challenges of growing up under the strict expectations of first-generation Indian immigrant parents.
In a conversation with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Dr Nene opened up about how his experiences shaped both his career and personal journey.
Strict career choices shaped by conservative parents
Dr Nene revealed that his parents, traditional Maharashtrian immigrants in the US, limited his career choices to either medicine or engineering. Although he had a passion for technology and even launched a software company at the age of 14, he was steered toward medicine. Despite receiving opportunities to attend top universities like Stanford and Berkeley, he chose a medical program in Washington to meet family expectations.
College life and fraternity culture led to personal growth
Reflecting on his college years in the American Midwest, Dr Nene spoke about being part of fraternity life, which exposed him to a vastly different culture of freedom and experimentation. He admitted, “We all got ploughed once in a while,” referring to the drinking culture he encountered. Dr Nene credited this phase with helping him overcome limitations and shaping his broader worldview.
Moving to India marked a bold career shift
After building a successful medical practice in the United States, Dr Nene made the surprising decision to move to India with his wife Madhuri Dixit. His friends and family initially questioned this move, but over time, his success with healthcare start-ups changed their perspective. Madhuri had already taken a bold step by leaving
Bollywood
at the height of her career to start a new life in the US, and Dr Nene’s later transition reflected the same spirit of embracing uncertainty for new opportunities.
On the work front, Madhuri Dixit was last seen in the horror comedy film ‘
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
’ which turned out to be a superhit despite mediocre reviews.
