Manisha Koirala

is largely remembered for a number of iconic movies, amidst which, her association with

Mani Ratnam

is hard to miss. Her films with the Mani - 'Bombay' and '

Dil Se

' are memorable till date but did you know that Manisha had almost rejected 'Bombay' because she was apprehensive of playing a mother on-screen at such a young age.
The actress shared during a conversation that everyone in the industry including her manager had told her no to accept the role as she would be typecast in a mother's role.

Manisha told India Today, "In the 1990s, especially in Bollywood or the Bombay industry, there was a taboo that even if you’re a hero playing a protagonist if you play a mother on screen, you will quickly be put in a box and end up playing supporting mother roles. You will no longer be the main hero, and that scared everyone around me, including my manager and other industry people."
However, it was the late cinematographer

Ashok Mehta

who scolded her and probed her to do the film. The actress recalled, "Silly girl, you're refusing a Mani Ratnam film because you have to play a mother at 19-20? Big deal, please go ahead and do it. You should be lucky he’s offered you a film. You should see the kind of movies he makes.”
Koirala further called Mani a 'maestro' and said that she has grown a lot by just working with him!
Manisha was paired opposite Arvind Swamy in the movie and songs continue to be memorable over the years. 'Bombay' had released in 1995.
