After a very long dull phase in his career Akshay Kumar delivered a superhit with OMG 2, the film made more than Rs 221 crore across the globe. Something similar was expected from his latest film Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue which is based on a real life incident that took place in

Raniganj

back in 1989. But it seems the audience wasn’t interested in watching the rescue-thriller and gave a big thumbs down to the film.

The film which till Friday afternoon was expected to earn about Rs 3.5 crore as per early trends, as per Sacnilk made only Rs 2.8 crore, which is only a bit better than Akshay’s first release of the year Selfie which made Rs 2.55 crore on day one.

Mission Raniganj

didn’t even get a decent advance booking, it managed to sell tickets worth only Rs 76 lakh before the start of day 1, the film has mounted on a huge budget of Rs 120 crore.

now donned the role of Jaswant Singh Gill a brave and sincere mining engineer who rescued 65 trapped miners at Raniganj Coalfields in 1989.The film is backed by Vashu Bhagnani and is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai whose last film was the successful Rustom.

Mission Raniganj is supported by the stellar starcast of Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Jameel Khan, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Varun Badola and many more. Between

Sooryavanshi

which released in 2021 and Mission Raniganj, Akshay had 9 releases out of which 8 didn’t work, the only successful was OMG 2.
His films like Atrangi Re, Cuttputlli, Bell Bottom, Bachchhan Paandey, Raksha Bandhan Ram Setu, Selfiee and Samrat Prithviraj didn’t leave a mark at the box office.

Mission Raniganj is also Akshay’s last release of the year, he will now be back only next year when he has at least 5 films lined up like Start Up, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,

Singham Again

, Sky Force and Welcome to the Jungle.
