Mission Raniganj takes a lukewarm start

7 months ago 71

Akshay Kumar is back on the big screen after playing Lord Shiva’s messenger in OMG 2. This time around he’s playing Jaswant Singh Gill in Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue, a brave and sincere mining engineer who rescued 65 trapped miners at

Raniganj

Coalfields in 1989.
The film has been carrying some great expectations as it is by Vashu Bhagnani who has been one of the most prolific producers of the 1990s and it has been directed by Tinu Suresh Desai whose last film was the successful Rustom.

But it seems the audience is not interested in watching this rescue-thriller. As per Sacnilk the film is expected to earn about Rs 3.50 crore on the opening day. It has been made on a budget of more than Rs 100 crore. In fact, the film didn’t even get a decent advance booking, it managed to sell tickets worth only Rs 76 lakh.

At one point the trade was expecting the film to open at Rs 9 crore and they are hoping that the film picks up in the evening shows as it has received good reviews and Akshay is praised for his performance.
Mission Raniganj is supported by the stellar starcast of Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Jameel Khan, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Varun Badola and many more. Before OMG 2, Akshay’s last superhit film was Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi back in 2021. In the interim he’s released about 8 films and most of them didn’t leave a mark be it Atrangi Re, Cuttputlli, Bell Bottom, Bachchhan Paandey, Raksha Bandhan Ram Setu, Selfiee or Samrat Prithviraj.

Mission Raniganj is also Akshay’s last release of the year, he will now be back only next year when he has at least 5 films lined up like Start Up,

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

,

Singham Again

, Sky Force and Welcome to the Jungle.
