Faf du Plessis etched his name in Major League Cricket history by becoming the first player to smash three centuries in the league’s history. Leading from the front for Texas Super Kings, the South African veteran produced another masterclass, guiding his side to a commanding total against MI New York in Match 21 of MLC 2025. Batting first, Texas Super Kings put up an imposing 223 for 4 in their 20 overs. Faf opened the innings alongside Smit Patel, and despite losing Patel early for a three-ball duck, the captain looked unfazed. He stitched crucial partnerships, first with Saiteja Mukkamalla (25 off 18) and then with Marcus Stoinis (25 off 22), to anchor the innings.

Du Plessis was unstoppable once settled, hammering 103* off just 53 deliveries, peppered with 5 fours and 9 towering sixes at a strike rate nearing 200.

His knock ensured that Texas maintained momentum throughout, setting a daunting target for MI New York.

Donovan Ferreira added the finishing touches with a blistering 53 off just 20 balls, while Savage chipped in with a quick 2 not out as Texas crossed the 220 mark with ease. For MI New York, George Linde and Rushil Ugarkar were the only bowlers to find breakthroughs, picking two wickets each, but they could do little to stop the du Plessis juggernaut.

Quiz: Who's that IPL player? This milestone innings further cements Faf du Plessis’ legacy as one of the most consistent and explosive batters in MLC. With three hundreds now to his name, he has set a benchmark for power hitting and consistency in the league’s young history. The Texas Super Kings will be hoping their skipper’s record-breaking form continues as they eye a strong finish in the race for the playoffs.
