The Lion King’ set for digital and physical release—here’s when you can watch it at home

Disney has officially announced when Mufasa: The Lion King will be available for fans to watch at home. The highly anticipated prequel-sequel to the 2019 remake of The Lion King has already performed strongly at the box office, earning $653 million worldwide, according to a report by Screenrant. Now, viewers can soon enjoy the movie on digital platforms and physical media.
As reported by Screenrant, Disney has confirmed that Mufasa: The Lion King will be released on video-on-demand (VOD) starting February 18. This means fans will be able to rent or purchase the film digitally on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play.
For those who prefer physical copies, the movie will also be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD from April 1. This gives audiences multiple options to watch the film from the comfort of their homes.

One of the biggest highlights of the home release is a sing-along version, which will display lyrics on-screen. This will allow fans to fully engage with the film’s music and sing along to their favorite songs.
Additionally, Disney has included several bonus features, such as:

  • Music videos featuring songs from the movie.
  • Behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew.
  • Outtakes and featurettes showcasing the film’s production process.

Interestingly, Disney has not yet announced when Mufasa: The Lion King will be available for streaming on Disney+. According to Screenrant, the studio has been delaying streaming releases in recent months, focusing more on theatrical, digital, and physical sales first.
A similar strategy was used for Moana 2, where the film was first released on digital and physical formats before being added to Disney+. This approach helps Disney maximize profits from VOD and Blu-ray/DVD sales before making the movie available for streaming.
Music has been a major attraction for Mufasa: The Lion King, and the sing-along version is expected to boost sales even further. One of the songs, "I Always Wanted a Brother," has gained massive popularity on TikTok and YouTube, increasing interest in the movie’s soundtrack.
With a star-studded voice cast including Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Blue Ivy Carter, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Mads Mikkelsen, and Billy Eichner, the film has already captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Now, fans will soon be able to enjoy the emotional story of Mufasa’s journey from home.
