Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama 'Chhaava', directed by Laxman Utekar, was released in theaters on February 14, 2025. The film brings to life the inspiring and heroic story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Within its first week, 'Chhaava' has made a significant impact at the box office, earning an impressive Rs 140 crore in India. The film’s grand visuals, compelling narrative, and Vicky Kaushal’s powerful performance have received widespread appreciation from both critics and audiences, making it one of the most talked-about historical dramas of the year. Amidst the film’s phenomenal success, the Mumbai Dabbawala Association has made an appeal to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting that 'Chhaava' be declared tax-free in the state. As per a Mid-Day report, the association has written to the CM, highlighting how the film authentically portrays the struggles and bravery of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Subhash Talekar, the president of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association, stated that their ancestors were part of Sambhaji Maharaj’s army and fought alongside him on the battlefield. He emphasized that both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj hold immense respect among their community, making this film an important tribute to Maratha history. The association believes that making 'Chhaava' tax-free would encourage more people, especially the younger generation, to watch the film and learn about the legacy of the great Maratha warrior. They argue that beyond entertainment, the movie serves as an educational and cultural experience that deserves wider reach. The request has gained traction among supporters of historical cinema and those who believe in preserving and promoting Indian heritage. Meanwhile, reports suggest that 'Chhaava' is expected to premiere on Netflix after its theatrical run. While many films announce their OTT partnerships in advance, the makers of 'Chhaava' have kept these details confidential. Typically, films arrive on streaming platforms 45–60 days after release, but an official announcement from the production team is still awaited. 118351332
