“The misreporting of this incident had a negative effect in the region, including on a vital US diplomatic effort and on tensions here at home.” The findings are in line with conclusion reached by the US, France and Canada.
Six days after Hamas accused Israel of bombing the hospital, the armed Palestinian group says it cannot find the munition that hit the site and has declined to provide detail to support its count of 471 casualties. Within an hour of the blast, Hamas-run Gazan health ministry accused Israel of attacking the al-Ahli hospital where scores of families were sheltering.
The claim was denied by Israel but quickly accepted and amplified by Arab leaders across West Asia.
