Prabhsimran confident of PBKS’ playoff berth under Iyer-Ponting leadership

believes the team is on track for a long-awaited IPL playoff return, thanks to a renewed sense of purpose under captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting. Speaking at the Star Sports Press Room, the 24-year-old, who has been with the franchise since 2019, praised the duo for transforming the team's mindset and approach.

"It's been seven years for me with Punjab Kings. So obviously, they have backed me a lot. And you can say that this year, we are playing very different cricket. And I feel that we are dominating most of the time," Prabhsimran said.

Despite a rain-affected match against KKR, the opener remains optimistic. "The chances of qualification are still very high. And obviously, if we qualify, then we will look towards the trophy. The team has trusted me all these years, now it's my turn to pay them back."

Punjab's bold approach this season has drawn praise, including their gritty win against KKR while defending a mere 112. Prabhsimran credits the team's freedom to express themselves to Ponting and Iyer's confidence.

"Our coach is very positive and even the captain too. He backs you fully… Iyer too takes decisions with zero doubt in his mind and accepts them irrespective of the outcome."
