Securing the top position this year is the University of Toronto, earning a perfect score of 100, while ETH Zurich closely trails with an impressive 99.6. Among Indian universities, IIT Delhi takes the lead, followed by IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bombay. Here's a look at the top 10 universities making remarkable strides in sustainability.

The QS Sustainability Rankings for 2025 highlights significant progress for many top Indian institutions, showing a positive shift compared to the 2024 rankings. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) has seen a remarkable rise, moving from 426th in 2024 to 171st in 2025, with a score of 80.6. Similarly, IIT Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) improved its position from 349th in 2024 to 202nd in 2025, with a score of 78.6. IIT Bombay (IITB) also made strides, moving up from 303rd in 2024 to 234th in 2025, achieving a score of 76.1.

IIT Madras (IITM) experienced a notable improvement, rising from 344th in 2024 to 277th in 2025, scoring 74. IIT Kanpur (IITK) also saw a leap, moving from 522nd in 2024 to 245th in 2025, with a score of 75.6.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) also made an impressive gain, rising from 505th in 2024 to 376th in 2025, with a score of 67.5.
While IIT Roorkee (IITR) fell from 387th in 2024 to 561st in 2025, with a score of 59, institutions like VIT Vellore and Manipal Academy of Higher Education showed significant improvements. VIT moved from 449th in 2024 to 396th in 2025, and Manipal Academy climbed from 576th to 401st, indicating a broader trend of increasing sustainability awareness across Indian higher education institutions.
