Virat Kohli found himself at the centre of an unexpected online controversy after fans noticed he had ‘liked’ actress Avneet Kaur’s glamorous photos on Instagram. Even after the cricketer issued a clarification regarding the accidental ‘like’, netizens flooded the internet with humorous memes linking the incident to his wife, Anushka Sharma.

Adding fuel to the social media frenzy, singer Rahul Vaidya shared a video on his Instagram stories in which he took a dig at Virat’s explanation. “Main kehna chahta hoon ki aaj ke baad aisa ho sakta hai ki algorithm bohot saare photos like karde jo maine nahi kare. So, jo bhi ladki ho, please don’t do PR around it because it is not my mistake. It is Instagram’s mistake, okay?” he said in the video.
Rahul further revealed that he had been blocked by the cricketer on Instagram. “So, guys, Virat Kohli has blocked me, just so you all know. I think that must also be an Instagram glitch — Virat Kohli wouldn’t have blocked me himself. Instagram’s algorithm must have told him, ‘Let me block Rahul Vaidya on your behalf.’ Right?”
Following the video, he also posted a cryptic note: “Virat Kohli’s fans are even bigger jokers than Virat!” (along with a clown emoji).
Anushka and Virat's London relocation for privacy
After accidentally liking Avneet’s post on Instagram, Virat wrote: “I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding.”
Neither Anushka nor Virat addressed the issue further, and the cricketer was notably absent from his team’s recent victory celebrations in the ongoing IPL.
