Reliance contributes Rs 25 crore to Uttarakhand for post-flood recovery & development

Reliance Director Anant Ambani.

Reliance, through Anant Ambani, has contributed Rs 25 crore to the Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Relief Fund to help rebuild lives affected by floods this year in the Himalayan state.

The contribution was also Reliance’s sustained social development efforts in Uttarakhand.

“We share a deep bond with the people of Uttarakhand, through joys and sorrows over the past decade. The phenomenal resilience of the state and its people in the face of crisis has been inspiring to all of us at Reliance. As we mark a decade of our association with Uttarakhand to further strengthen this journey we are contributing in a meaningful manner to the state’s well-being,” Anant Ambani said on the recent commitment to development initiatives in Uttarakhand.

In a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Anant Ambani said: “We hope this initiative will further the State government’s effort to take up various development programmes for the people of Uttarakhand.”

Dhami thanked Ambani on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand.

“We at Reliance are fortunate to have been a partner to the state over 10 years through various education and social development initiatives,” Anant Ambani wrote in the letter.

Floods and landslides following heavy rains lashed Uttarakhand during July and August this year that resulted in widespread loss of life and property.

Reliance Industries, and the Ambani family personally, have been staunch supporters of Uttarakhand over many years.

Since 2013 floods, Reliance has stood with Uttarakhand. The natural calamity caused extensive damage.

Reliance Foundation has been among the first organisations to reach far-flung areas to rescue stranded people, provide relief and shelter and initiated efforts to rebuild lives. It reconstructed institutions, including two schools that catered to children in 30 villages, while training communities for greater resilience.

Reliance has also supported the people of the state following floods in 2021 and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October 2020, Anant Ambani donated Rs 5 crore to the Chardham Devasthanam Board to help it cope with the losses caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.

In 2021, Rs 5 crore was donated by the Reliance Foundation to the state’s disaster management authority for COVID relief efforts.

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani donated Rs 2.5 crore each last year to the temple committees of Badrinath and Kedarnath.

In collaboration with the Government of Uttarakhand and other organisations, Reliance has taken various social initiatives. Rural communities were supported in creating about five lakh cubic metres of water harvesting capacity, which helped improve water availability for agriculture and consumption in 90 villages.

Also, Reliance has supported over 3.8 lakh children and youth in Uttarakhand for football, basketball and athletics through its Education and Sports for All initiatives.
