Akshay Kumar advocates for updates in Indian history textbooks
Akshay Kumar, gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Sky Force' on January 24, 2025, has sparked a conversation about the need for revisions in Indian history textbooks. The film, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend, features Veer Pahariya in his debut role as T Vijaya, an Indian Air Force officer who goes missing during India’s daring airstrike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase in the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
In a recent interview with News18, Akshay highlighted the lack of recognition for T Vijaya’s sacrifice in Indian history books. He emphasized the importance of including such heroic tales to educate and inspire future generations. According to the actor, many significant stories of courage and valor, particularly from the Indian Armed Forces, remain absent from the educational curriculum.
Kumar shared that he often chooses roles that shed light on unsung heroes, aiming to bring their stories to the forefront. He expressed concern over the limited narratives taught in schools, stating, “A lot of things in history books need correction.” While historical figures like Akbar and Aurangzeb are well-documented, Kumar believes that equal focus should be given to India’s own heroes, including those honored with the Param Vir Chakra.
Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, ‘Sky Force’ is a gripping war drama inspired by the real-life events of the 1965 Indo-Pak War. Headlined by Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, The film chronicles the Indian Air Force’s audacious airstrike on Pakistan’s heavily fortified Sargodha airbase, a mission that showcases unparalleled bravery and strategic brilliance. At its core, the story revolves around a maverick pilot, his mysterious disappearance, and his Wing Commander’s relentless quest for truth, which spans nearly two decades.
