Suniel Shetty is beaming with pride as his son-in-law, KL Rahul, etched his name in the record books during the IPL 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans in Delhi. Rahul became the fastest Indian to reach 8,000 T20 runs, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous record. But for the Bollywood star, Rahul’s achievement is less about overtaking legends and more about the cricketer’s unflinching dedication to Indian cricket.
KL Rahul's love for the game..
Reacting to Rahul’s milestone, Suniel Shetty shared heartfelt sentiments in a conversation with ANI. He emphasized that the wicketkeeper-batter is driven by a singular goal — contributing to Team India’s success, regardless of his position in the batting order.“The only thing I know about KL Rahul is that he wants to play for the country, come what may,” Shetty said. “He wants to play all formats, whether it’s No. 1, No.
5, No. 10, or anywhere in the eleven. That’s his biggest high.”
KL Rahul’s admiration for Virat Kohli
While many may interpret Rahul’s feat as a rivalry milestone, Shetty was quick to dismiss such notions. “He admires Virat a lot. They’re very good friends. So, I don’t think he would be happy just because he’s broken Virat Kohli’s record,” Shetty clarified. “He’ll be happy because he’s done well, and knowing him, I can say this – for him, it’s not about beating Virat or Rohit, but about seeing if he can take the team home.
”Rahul’s century not only sealed a crucial win for his team but also marked his seventh T20 hundred. He now has 8,081 runs in 237 matches, with 68 half-centuries, becoming the third-fastest globally to the 8,000-run mark, behind only Chris Gayle and Babar Azam.
Suniel Shetty’s next film set for release
As Rahul continues to shine on the field, Suniel Shetty is also set for a big moment on screen. The actor will next be seen in ‘Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath’, which is slated for release on May 23.
