Empuraan as the second biggest hit of Malayalam cinema

Malayalam cinema’s box office leaderboard has witnessed a major reshuffle, and it’s none other than superstar Mohanlal who has outdone himself. His latest release Thudram has officially dethroned his own film L2: Empuraan to claim the second spot in the list of highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.In just 20 days since its release, Thudram has raked in an impressive Rs 105.95 crore in India, narrowly surpassing L2: Empuraan, which had previously earned Rs 105.25 crore. While L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was hailed as a monumental hit earlier this year, Thudram’s steady run and word-of-mouth momentum have propelled it beyond expectations. The film opened to a solid Rs 5.25 crore on its first Friday and saw an excellent surge over its opening weekend, collecting Rs 10.5 crore on Sunday. Its first-week total stood at a robust Rs 51.4 crore. The second week maintained a decent hold with Rs 35.35 crore, and the film’s third week continued to draw audiences, contributing another Rs 19.2 crore by its 20th day.

The film’s multilingual release, including its Telugu and Tamil versions, added marginally to its total, but the lion's share of the earnings came from Kerala and Malayalam-speaking audiences worldwide.Despite stiff competition from other regional and pan-Indian releases like Nani’s

or Suriya’s Retro or Samantha backed

Subham

or Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 , Thudram has proved its mettle at the box office. The top spot on the all-time Malayalam box office chart remains with

Manjummel Boys

, which created history earlier this year by collecting Rs 141.61 crore in its lifetime run. With Thudram achieving this milestone, it marks yet another feather in Mohanlal’s illustrious cap and reaffirms his unshakable hold over the Malayalam box office. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see if Thudram can inch closer to Manjummel Boys in the coming day
