Mohanlal's 'Thudarum,' directed by Tharun Moorthy, is experiencing a slowdown at the box office after a strong initial run. The film's collections have declined in recent weeks, with Day 26 registering its lowest earnings. While it may not surpass 'Manjummel Boys,' 'Thudarum' remains a significant Malayalam hit of 2025, solidifying Mohanlal's star power and Tharun Moorthy's directorial success.
Mohanlal’s latest release Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy, has been on a steady run at the box office since its release, but the numbers now suggest that the film’s winning streak is finally losing momentum. On Day 26, Thudarum registered its lowest collection so far — Rs 1.10 crore as per early estimates by Sacnilk — signaling a gradual slowdown in its theatrical journey. The film, which opened to impressive numbers, earning Rs 5.25 crore on its first day, showed excellent growth over its opening weekend. It touched Rs 10.5 crore on its first Sunday, driven by Mohanlal’s star power and Tharun Moorthy’s reputation for crafting sharp, socially-rooted thrillers. The first week ended on a high with Rs 51.4 crore, and though there was a predictable dip in Week 2, the film held well, adding Rs 35.35 crore to its tally. However, the third and fourth weeks have witnessed a notable decline in collections. From Rs 20.8 crore in Week 3 to struggling to cross even Rs 2 crore on weekdays in Week 4, Thudarum is now inching towards the end of its box office run. Day 26’s Rs 1.10 crore collection, the lowest so far, confirms the film’s slowdown. The big question now is whether Thudarum can challenge Manjummel Boys, which emerged as the Malayalam industry’s biggest success story this year, collecting Rs 141.6 crore in India.
Looking at the current trend, it appears unlikely. Thudarum would need an extraordinary hold or a sudden spike in viewership to close the gap — a feat that seems improbable given the film’s natural drop after nearly four weeks in cinemas and upcoming releases from different languages .
While Thudarum may not surpass Manjummel Boys in lifetime collections, it still stands as one of 2025’s major Malayalam hits, reaffirming Mohanlal’s enduring popularity and Tharun Moorthy’s standing as a bankable director in the industry. The film has already become the second biggest hit of Malayalam Cinema beating Mohanlal’s L2: Empyrean which was directed by Prithviraj.
