UGC NET 2024 exam revised dates: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the UGC NET December 2024 exam, which was originally set for January 15, 2025. The exam rescheduling decision was made following numerous requests from candidates to delay the exam due to the overlap with Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and other regional festivals on that day. The postponement affects only the January 15 exam, while the exam on January 16 will take place as scheduled. The revised dates for the exam have been released on the official website.
In December 2024, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi appealed to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to postpone the exams, emphasizing the cultural insensitivity towards Tamil Nadu's traditions during the Pongal festival. The official notification released previously stated that "The National Testing Agency has received representation to postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 examination on account of Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and other festivals on 15th January 2025. In the interest of aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 Exam scheduled on 15th January 2025 only.”
