Rohit Shetty is known to bring together an ensemble cast for epic entertainers. While his formula has worked till now,
Cirkus
, which seemingly had to bear the brunt of the pandemic, was an exception.
The film starred Ranveer Singhand Varun Sharma in double roles and despite the much talked about trailer and songs, Cirkus couldn’t pull the audiences to theatres. We asked Varun Sharma if he was disheartened with the box office response to the film, after all the hard work that team put in and he shared, “It's one film that has really taught me a lot.
It was made with a lot of love and it was made at a time when a lot of films were not being made. So, I have a huge respect and a lot of love for the entire team and Rohit (Shetty) sir for believing in us and for believing in the film and for making that film because it did spread a lot of happiness. It did spread a lot of love. I think that one is always going to be very special to me because we had a blast while making that film.”
Further reflecting on the box office numbers, he added, “Box office numbers wise, it is a different thing. But I think I was just very happy that we got a chance to do the film and not only me, but all the 500 people working on that film got a chance to do something that they love during a course of time when it wasn't possible. And that man (Rohit Shetty) made it possible. So, there's a huge amount of respect and love for him for giving happiness and employment to so many people at that time.”
Cirkus hit the screens in December 2022 and according to Sacnilk, the film concluded its theatrical run with only Rs 38.64 crore nett at the domestic box office. Not one to be bogged down by failures, Rohit Shetty is now focussing on his ambitious cop universe and has started shooting for ‘Singham Again’ with
Ajay Devgn
, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff and Deepika Padukone.
