Talking about winning the National Award for 'The Kashmir Files', the director said that the realisation happens later on. According to him, when you are receiving the award, it is more technical as you have to maintain protocol in front of the president. However, when you come down, you realise the gravity of the award and you figure out the kind of people who have received the award before you, it is like you are a part of this great legend group of filmmaking.

Vivek also went on to add that the award he has received is a tribute to all the victims of genocide and persecution in the world. According to him, we are living in a time where wars are happening all over the world so it is a message and tribute for all the victims of religious terrorism in the world, especially the Kashmiri Pandit community who were silenced for 32 years. He added that with this film, their voices can be heard and lessons can be learnt by the world about what happens when humanity is absent in a society.
'The Kashmir Files' starred Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar and others. The film did some record-breaking business at the box office.
