Is this fair?’: Vivek Oberoi defends 'Pushpa 2' star Allu Arjun following his arrest in Sandhya theatre stampede case

Telugu superstar

Allu Arjun has found himself at the center of a heated controversy following his arrest in connection with the tragic stampede at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre earlier this month. The incident, which occurred during the screening of '

Pushpa 2

', claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman and left her son critically injured. While the 'Pushpa 2' star was granted interim bail, the case has sparked significant debate, with several celebrities rallying behind him, including actor Vivek Oberoi.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Vivek Oberoi voiced his support for Allu Arjun while expressing condolences for the lives lost. “While any loss of precious life is painful and should be avoided, is it fair to arrest Allu Arjun for this mishap? I’ve known Allu and his wonderful family for decades. They are law-abiding citizens who have always been patriotic and socially responsible,” he wrote.Oberoi also raised pertinent questions about the fairness of the arrest, comparing the scenario to potential incidents at political rallies. He questioned whether similar legal actions would be taken against political figures in such cases, suggesting a need for systemic improvements to prevent tragedies like this.

“I leave you all with a question: If this same accident had happened at a campaign rally of an important state or national candidate, would the police arrest them? Would they blame them for a law and order issue and treat the governmental figure the way Allu is being treated?” Oberoi wrote, adding that he has full faith in the judiciary and believes the case will be handled justly.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court provided Allu Arjun with significant relief, granting him interim bail for four weeks with a personal bond of Rs 50,000. The court ruled out malafide actions, siding with the argument presented by the actor’s legal team that there was no intent or knowledge of the potential tragedy during his visit to the theatre. The defense argued that the stampede, caused by an overwhelming crowd surge, could at most be classified as negligence but lacked criminal intent.
