Asha Parekh undoubtedly ruled the Hindi film industry in the 60s and 70s. She was one of the most talented and loved actresses we have in Bollywood who still commands a huge fan following.
In an interview with Filmfare back in 2017, Asha Parekh talked about one of the scariest fan experiences of her life when she was forced to enter her own house while hiding inside her car.
She said, "I used to get fan mail by the gunny bags. There was this Chinese fellow, who had plonked himself near my gate and just wouldn’t go. He kept tabs on when I came, when I left. Naturally, I started getting scared. So I’d duck in when my car entered the gate. When the neighbours asked him to go, he brandished his knife saying, ‘I’ll kill you! I’ve come to marry her'."
The actress went through a very tough time because she couldn't feel safe in her own home. Despite asking a
Chinese fan
to leave multiple times, the fan didn't listen. So, Asha Parekh called the police commissioner and asked for help. The police quickly took the fan to Arthur Road jail.
While she assumed that the matter had been resolved, the Chinese fan hadn't given up. He wrote letters to the actress from the jail too. Recalling what was written in the letter, Asha revealed that the person was requesting her to bail him out, but she didn’t do it because she was scared.
Although she fell in love with iconic filmmaker Nasir Hussain, she never married him or anyone else in her life. The actress has been happily single.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Asha recently received the Dadasaheb Phalke award for the year 2020. She was handed the award by President Droupadi Murmu.
Asha Parekh, who made her debut as a child artiste in Bollywood with the 1952 film Aasmaan, is best known for starring in films like Teesri Manzil (1966), Kati Patang (1970) and Caravan (1971).
