For decades,

Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha

's on-screen chemistry has captivated audiences, sparking endless speculation about their off-screen relationship. However, Jaya Bachchan once revealed the real reason the iconic pair stopped working together.
In a throwback interview with People magazine, Jaya addressed the persistent rumours that she was the reason her husband stopped working with Rekha after their 1981 film Silsila. Praising their pairing, she suggested that there were deeper reasons behind their professional split.
“Why should I mind? But I feel it will be more like a sensation than actual work. And that’s a pity because one will miss the opportunity of seeing them together,” Jaya remarked.
She added, “Both of them probably realise it will go beyond work.”

The film Silsila, directed by Yash Chopra, remains one of Bollywood’s most famous films for its love triangle plot, which fuelled curiosity about the real-life dynamics between Amitabh, Jaya, and Rekha.
Addressing gossip about her husband’s alleged affair, Jaya firmly stated, “If there was any, he would have been somewhere else, na? People liked them as a couple on screen, and that’s fine. The media tried linking him with every one of his heroines. My life would have been hell if I had taken it all seriously. We are made of sterner stuff.”
While Jaya maintained that the allegations and rumours were just stuff of tabloid gossip, director Yash Chopra added fuel to the fire when he claimed in a BBC interview that the love triangle in his film spilled off screen as well. In the 2010 report, he said, “I was always on tenterhooks and scared (during Silsila) because it was real life coming into reel life. Jaya is his wife and Rekha is his girlfriend – the same story is going on (in real life). Anything could have happened because they are working together.”
