Entrepreneur and polo player Sunjay Kapur, who is best known in Bollywood circles for being Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, passed away on June 12, in London. The 53-year-old was reportedly playing polo when he accidentally swallowed a bee.

The incident triggered a severe allergic reaction, which led to a heart attack and ultimately his untimely demise.Due to legal complications related to his US citizenship, Sunjay's body could not be immediately repatriated. His funeral is now scheduled to take place on June 19 at 5 PM at Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in New Delhi. However, their marriage hit turbulent waters and the couple separated in 2014. Their divorce was officially granted in 2016. Around that time, Karisma was frequently in the news for her rumoured relationship with businessman Sandeep Toshniwal.In a 2017 interview with DNA, Karisma’s father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, addressed whether his daughter had plans to remarry. Without confirming any speculation, he made it clear that her happiness was paramount.

“I think Lolo (Karisma) is very well settled and happy,” Randhir had said. “I have never discussed the issue of marriage with her but if she does plan to, she will always have my blessings.”‘She is a happy mother'At the time, Randhir seemed convinced that Karisma had found contentment in her role as a mother and didn’t feel the need to remarry.“She is a happy mother and if she wants, she can get married any time but there is no step in that direction right now.

He went on to describe Karisma as a hands-on parent who doted on her children and found fulfillment in raising them.

Though the marriage ended years ago, his sudden and bizarre demise has come as a shock to many. Karisma Kapoor has yet to make a public statement following the news of Sunjay’s death.
