Who was Sam Maneskshaw?
Born in 1914, Sam Manekshaw was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. He is widely regarded as the architect of India's victory during the war.
His life
He was born in Amritsar, Punjab, in pre-Independence India and joined the British Indian Army in 1932.

During his military career, Manekshaw fought five wars, starting with the World War II.

He also played a crucial role in the Indo-Pak war of 1947, Indo-Sino war of 1962 and Indo-Pak wars of 1971.For his service as the Chief Of Army Staff during the Indo-Pak War, in 1971, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.
His honors

Escaping death
Manekshaw is known to have escaped death on many occasions. During the Second World War, he suffered serious bullet injuries in his stomach and was saved by an Australian surgeon.
Sam Bahadur
Maneksha was given the nickname 'Bahadur' by soldiers of the 8th Gorkha Rifles where he was reassigned after Independence in 1947.
His legacy
Sam Bahadur had a military career of four decades. He died at the age of 94 due to complications from pneumonia.
