Woman in Rashmika's deepfake video is disturbed

Rashmika Mandanna

expressed her concern about a

deepfake video

showing her face on the body of another woman which was widely circulated on social media, British-Indian Instagram influencer

, whose body was featured in the fake video with Rashmika's face, said she was not involved in its creation and was also deeply disturbed and upset by it.

"Hi all, it has come to my attention that someone created a

deepfake

video using my body and a popular Bollywood actress’s face. I had no involvement with the deepfake video and I’m deeply disturbed and upset by what is happening. I worry about the future of women and girls who now have to fear even more about putting themselves on social media. Please take a step back and fact-check what you see on the internet. Not everything on the internet is real," she wrote on Instagram.

The viral video has now sparked outrage from government and several Indian celebrities. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, information technology minister, tweeted on Monday that such deep fake videos were dangerous and damaging forms of misinformation, but warned that they must be dealt with by platforms.

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan called it a strong case for legal action.
