England will take on Afghanistan in the 13th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In their previous game, the defending champions bounced back in some style with a victory against Bangladesh in Dharamshala. This was the first win of the tournament for the side after their loss against New Zealand.

In contrast, Afghanistan come into this match after back-to-back losses so far, with their recent match being against India at the same venue in Delhi. In that game, India bagged an 8-wicket victory while chasing down a target of 273 runs.

Both these two sides have faced each other twice in World Cups – in 2019 and 2015. Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root will be the key performers for the side after their 2019 encounter.

For England, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan and Joe Root provided England with a strong foundation in their last match against Bangladesh, and they will be key once again for the defending champions.

Reece Topley was included in the team for that game and quite possibly secured his position by delivering an impressive performance, claiming 4 wickets for 43 runs in his allotted 10 overs.

Naveen-ul-Haq emerged as the most economical bowler for Afghanistan against India and once again, will be key member for the side. The side will also be keen for Mohammad Nabi to find form in this competition.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have made promising starts in their last two matches and will now be expected to kick on and make a score of note.
