Once every four years, India take on Pakistan in the ODI World Cup. It’s the ultimate battle, the pinnacle of rivalries. Words, emotions and everything else in between falls short to narrate the sheer excitement when these two titans of Asian cricket take on each other in a World Cup match.

All eyes will be on the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when India take on Pakistan. When it’s the World Cup, India enjoy an unbeaten streak over the arch-rivals and this adds another layer of excitement.

Let’s look at how India emerged victorious each time against arch-rivals Pakistan in a World Cup:

1992: India won by 43 runs in Sydney, marking the first World Cup encounter between India and Pakistan. India batted first and courtesy Sachin Tendulkar’s 54 off 62 balls, set a target of 217 runs. Javed Miandad was the only hope for Pakistan in the end and his dismissal gave India their first win over Pakistan in a World Cup match.

1996: India won by 39 runs in Bengaluru, where the absence of Wasim Akram due to injury played a significant role. With this, India advanced to the semifinals. Ajay Jadeja’s brutal onslaught against Waqar Younis has become one of the most talked about moments in the World Cup as it took India to 287/8 in 50 overs.

1999: India won by 47 runs in Manchester, an emotional match during the Kargil war, with Prasad’s five-wicket haul securing India’s win. Prasad picked a five-wicket haul while Javagal Srinath picked up 3 wickets as Pakistan were knocked out for 180 with 27 balls remaining.

2003: India won by six wickets in Centurion, one of the iconic India vs Pakistan World Cup matches, featuring one of the greatest knocks played by an Indian player in a World Cup. Chasing down a stiff total of 273, Sachin Tendulkar set the stage alight with an explosive 98 as India chased down the title.

2011: India won by 29 runs in Mohali, and once again Sachin Tendulkar was the difference with a resilient 85. Yuvraj Singh contributed with the ball as India made it to the final.
