England’s only win came against Bangladesh, and have suffered defeats to New Zealand, Afghanistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

The defending champions face their biggest challenge yet when they take on Australia at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 4 November.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins was asked about England’s eight-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka on Thursday. “You mentioned close friends in other teams. I imagine you would have been heartbroken to see England suffer defeat. What was your reaction to that?,” asked one of the reporters at the press conference.

To this, Cummins, with a big smile, replied, saying: “Um, Yeah. Obviously we’ve got them in a couple of games time, so we’ll have a close look there. Yeah, it’s sad to see (he smiles). Don’t have much more.”
