Bobby: Dharmendra didn't allow me to go to b'day parties

Veteran actor Dharmendra has often shared how he tried to protect his children from the film industry, even getting upset when his daughter Esha Deol decided to make her Bollywood debut. It's surprising, however, that three of his four kids — Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Esha — went on to become lead actors. In a recent interview, Bobby recalled how their father always tried to keep him away from the film industry.
Bobby shared that his father, Dharmendra, never allowed him to attend the birthdays of star kids. At the time, Bobby felt it was a big deal, but over time, it became a habit and he didn’t think much of it. Dharmendra always wanted to keep his children away from the film industry, as he felt it was fake and wanted them to stay clear of its artificial aspects.
Dharmendra’s Strict Parenting: No Star Kid Birthday Parties for Bobby
In his interview with Instant Bollywood, Bobby explained that their household was simple, far from the glitz and glam of the film industry. They never hosted parties or discussed films at home. They lived like ordinary people, unaffected by the industry. Bobby recalled being surprised by the immense love his father received, whether on film sets or when crowds gathered outside their home. He would often wonder why his father was so beloved.

Bobby’s Childhood Visits to His Father’s Film Sets
The 'Animal' star shared that he would often visit his father’s film sets, not out of interest in the shoot, but because he wanted to skip school and enjoy good food. He would ask his father in the morning if he could come along, and his father would agree. However, Bobby would end up getting scolded by his mother in the evening. He humorously added that if mobile phones had been around at the time, his mother would have called his father to send him back to school.

The Deol Legacy in the Film Industry
Sunny Deol, began his acting career with the 1983 romance Betaab, directed by Rahul Rawail. Bobby followed with his own debut in the 1995 romantic action film Barsaat, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The next generation saw Esha Deol enter the industry with the 2002 romance thriller Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe, directed by Vinay Shukla. Sunny’s sons, Karan Deol and Rajvir Deol, also made their film debuts in Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Sunny's 2019 directorial, and Avnish Barjatya's 2023 romance Dono. Now, Bobby’s sons, Aryaman and Dharam Deol, are preparing to make their acting debuts as well.
