Rajinikanth’s Coolie overseas rights set to shatter records with Rs 80 crore offer

Rajinikanth's upcoming film Coolie is generating immense buzz, with overseas theatrical rights potentially fetching over Rs 80 crore, setting a new benchmark for Tamil cinema. Makers are strategically targeting Telugu-speaking states, capitalizing on the success of previous films like Jailer and Leo in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The film also stars Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Upendra, and others.

The anticipation around Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie is reaching a fever pitch, and the business surrounding the film is already reflecting its sky-high expectations. As per trade sources, the overseas theatrical rights for Coolie are still in the process of being finalized.

However, what’s making headlines is the massive offers the film has reportedly received for more than Rs 80 crore making it one of the biggest overseas pre-release deals in the history of Tamil cinema. If these numbers materialize, it would set an all-time record for a Tamil film’s pre-release overseas business, surpassing the benchmarks set by previous blockbusters like Jailer, Leo, and 2.0. A final call on the overseas distribution deal is expected to be taken soon, with official details likely to be announced thereafter.Interestingly, the makers of Coolie are said to be strategically focusing on securing a stronger draw from the Telugu-speaking states over the Hindi belt. This shift in focus comes after observing the impressive box office performance of both Rajinikanth’s Jailer and director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — both films posted stronger collections in Telugu states than in the Hindi circuit.Though with the presence of Aamir Khan in the film might bring both the languages on the same footing.

Sources close to the production reveal that the team is aiming for a bigger distribution deal from Telugu states given the recent pan-India box office dynamics, where big Tamil films have found increasingly lucrative markets in the Telugu-speaking territories as compared to Hindi markets.Sources share that the number would be in the range of Rs 40 to Rs 50 crore, the only block would be the release of Aditya Chopra- Ayan Mukherji’s War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr and Kiara Advani. The presence of NTR Jr is surely going to impact the Telugu audience as the film though primarily in Hindi will have a wide Telugu dubbed release to cash in on NTR Jr’s presence.Coolie also features Nagarjuna, Sivakarthikeyan, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan and Pooja Hegde.
