She believes that her consistent efforts to break into the industry paved the way for her role in the Aamir Khan-starrer.Before 'Dangal', she used to attend random auditions and accepted every opportunity that came her way. “Until then, whatever I was getting, I was doing it. Even if it was a bad film, I would do it, because at that time, when you don’t have work, you just take whatever you get. So I’m lucky that I got that,” she admitted.

Fatima Sana Shaikh rejected her role in DangalThe actress initially felt that she wouldn’t be able to portray Geeta Phogat on screen, and she conveyed this to the makers.

“I had said no when they offered me the role. I googled Geeta Phogat and told myself, this is not me — she was 49 kgs, I can't look like her. They just told me, ‘How does it matter? You just come and give the audition.’ So that’s how it started,” she recalled.Fatima further added that she enjoys the audition process and that she goes through extensive research and preparation for each role.
