Kamal Haasan was seen in very few Bollywood movies. He made his debut in Hindi in 1981 with 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye', and then he was seen in movies like 'Saagar', 'Sadma' and 'Chachi 420'. Of course, his movies in Hindi cinema were far and few.
Haasan had once revealed the actual reason why he did stay in Bollywood and kept his association here brief. He had revealed that he felt out of place here and called himself the poorer cousin of Hindi cinema as he felt the rest of the actors here and people in Hindi cinema were really rich and spoilt. Another reason he mentioned was the underworld connections.Kamal had said in an interview with India Today, "The other reason was there were too many underworld connections.
I didn’t want to stay there to either oppose it or succumb to the threat. I was one of the actors to decide that I would not have anything to do with black money. It is, I’m living proof of it. I’m quite happy. I drove in a car. It is quite possible. Someone else did it earlier. Cameraman Vincent. He never touched black money.
It was much before any government threatened him to not keep black money. My brother and I made that call."
He added further, "The times… those times were like that. I was a poorer cousin of Hindi cinema. I had to do my own laundry and stuff like that. They were really spoilt and rich. They could make one film for two and a half years and they could do 6 films at a time. I thought that was very defeating in character-building, both morally and technically speaking. That was one of the reasons."Kamal will be seen next in Mani Ratnam's 'Thug Life'. At the moment, the actor's name has been in the news due to his controversial comment which created a huge stir. He had said, "Kannada was born out of Tamil." On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court has slammed the actor for his comment. Though, he said that his statement has been misinterpreted.
