While biopics and autobiographies have become a trend in Bollywood, veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, before his sudden demise, made it clear that he had no interest in chronicling his own life—either on screen or in print.
The star, also known as Bharat Kumar, for his patriotic works, passed away on Friday morning, his son,
Kunal Goswami
confirmed in a statement. Speaking to ANI, he said, "He was unwell for a long time, but he has overcome everything with great intensity. It is God's grace that he passed away peacefully. He will be cremated tomorrow morning. Thank you to all of you."
Manoj had previously revealed in a candid interview with PTI, that he is firmly against the idea of a biopic or a written biography on his life. “I can write about myself, but there are other persons involved in it and I will have to name them. I’ll be exposing them then, which I don’t like,” Kumar said.

Known for his iconic patriotic films such as Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and
Roti Kapda Aur Makaan
, Kumar explained that even if someone wanted to tell his story, they haven’t approached him—largely because they know his stance.
“Is the audience only interested in how I came to Mumbai, how I struggled, how many nights I spent in writing and conceiving my films? They are not... But nobody has approached me, honestly. They know my temperament,” he added.
Despite his reluctance for a film on his own life, Kumar expressed admiration for Amar Prem Nath, a four-episode biopic on the late actor Prem Nath, created by his son Monty.
Kumar, shared the screen with Prem Nath in several films including Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Shor, and Dus Numbari.
