Om Puri was married to Seema Kapoor in the 1990. Their marriage lasted for eight months, after which he married Nandita Puri. In a recent interview, the late actor's ex wife Seema has opened up on their marriage and how Om left her when she was three months pregnant. He was cheating on Seema with Nandita when she was pregnant. He eventually divorced Seema and married Nandita.
Seema opened up about it during an interview with Siddharth Kannan and said that Om met Nandita during the shoot of the film, '
City Of Joy
'. She added, "Everything was going fine after our marriage, but that movie turned my life upside down… My good friend Renu Saluja, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first wife, knew about the affair. But she and Sudhir Mishra and everyone else chalked it down to a phase. They felt that he’d get back to normal after the film. I found out about the affair much later, when I was in Delhi. He called me up and told me that he was seeing someone else, and my friends said that he was just seeking attention."
Om's ex-wife further added that things got too much when Om was drinking and Nandita was creating a scene. So, she decided to leave the house one night when she was three months pregnant. She also lost her baby and that's when Om sent her Rs 25,000. She said, "But things became overwhelming; Puri sahab would drink too much, and Nandita would make a scene. One night, I decided to leave. I was three months pregnant."
Seema is actor Annu Kapoor's sister and he wanted to take Om Puri to court. So, she got Rs 6 lakh as alimony but refused to take Rs 25,000 which Om sent her when their baby died. "Forget consoling me. He sent Rs 25,000 via his secretary. I turned it down, and his secretary told me, ‘This ego is what is destroying you’. But what he thought was ego was just self-respect," said Seema.
Om married Nandita in 1993 but the got divorced in 2013. The actor passed away in January 2017.
