Raj Kundra, who is all set to make his acting debut with '
UT69
', recently opened up about his wife Shilpa Shetty's instructions while making the film. He also spoke about how Shilpa stood strong during his time in
jail
.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Raj revealed that initially, Shilpa couldn’t handle it because all his businesses were shut down overnight. He added that when he was released, he was broken.
He would be shaking half the time in fear. According to him, Shilpa helped him; she got him a psychiatrist. He was put on medication.
Elaborating further, Raj added that when he was in jail, he knew she was hurt. He revealed that Shilpa would write that to her in the letters they exchanged then, but she also sympathised with what he went through. According to him, she is a Devi for him. Raj also added that the actress also did things she didn’t believe she could. Raj admitted that he apologised to her as she had to go through this because of him.
Spilling some beans about the film, Raj said that he had made notes inside the jail. Director Shahnawaz Ali and
Vikram Bhatt
thought they should be turned into a film instead of a memoir. They spoke to Shilpa about the same. According to Raj, she was clear that the film will have nothing about the case. The actress added that as long as that was in place, his story was important and needed to be told.
Raj also went on to share that as soon as the trailer of UT 69 was unveiled, many suggested it was made to gain public sympathy. However, Kundra rubbished the notion and said that in the trailer, he is being called ‘Shilpa ka pati’ and ‘Porn king’. According to him, it is a story beyond him. It’s about the system, the overcrowded jails, and human rights violations that are going on inside.
'UT69' is all slated to hit the theatres on November 3, 2023.
