Ram reveals Gautami and he lived together before marriage

In an industry where relationships are often fleeting, Ram Kapoor and Gautami Kapoor’s love story continues to inspire. From their first meeting on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir to building a life together for over 25 years, the couple has weathered every challenge with grace and humour.

Now, in a candid chat, Ram reveals a bold chapter from their past—one that began even before they were married. Ram Kapoor, currently seen in Mistry, revealed on Farah Khan’s YouTube channel that he and wife Gautami Kapoor lived together for 1.5 to 2 years before marriage—a bold move at a time when live-in relationships weren’t widely accepted. Farah joked that Gautami deserved praise for still marrying him.The actor also shared how most people around him—including friends, family, and well-wishers—doubted his marriage would last.

He revealed that everyone used to ask Gautami why she was marrying him, convinced the relationship wouldn’t survive. Reflecting on those early doubts, Ram proudly said he’s been proving everyone wrong—having now been happily married for over 25 years. With his trademark humour, he added that marriage is all about “tit for tat”—just as he tolerates Gautami, she tolerates him too.In an earlier conversation with Humans of Bombay, Ram had opened up about the financial struggles he faced early in his marriage.

The Bade Achhe Lagte Hain actor revealed that for nearly a year after tying the knot, he had no work and lived off wife Gautami’s earnings. At the time, she was working on the TV show Lipstick, while he was completely jobless. Reflecting on those days, Ram shared that few remember that phase of his life, but it taught him resilience.

He also recalled starting his career with just ₹1,500 per day for a Doordarshan show and stressed the importance of being ready to start from scratch if needed.He first met Gautami on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir, where she initially played his sister-in-law and later his on-screen wife. Their bond grew off-screen as well, and friendship gradually turned into love. Despite having contrasting personalities—Gautami being reserved and Ram more outgoing—they built a strong relationship based on understanding and respect. Ram proposed to her at a party, and the couple tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in 2003.

They are now proud parents to two children, Sia and Aks.
