A new development has been made in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case. Latest reports indicate that the Mumbai Police conducted an
identification parade
for the prime accused in the case, Shariful Islam Shehzad, at Arthur Road Jail on Wednesday.
According to the police investigation, Shariful Islam Shehzad allegedly intruded into Said Ali Khan's Bandra residence with the sole intent of robbery. However, things didn't go as he planned and when confronted by Saif, it led to chaos, leaving the actor with multiple injuries.
Media reports say that in the identification parade, held recently, Saif Ali Khan's staff - Eliyamma Phillip and house help Junu were present, and they identified the accused. Further, the police said they have strong evidence linking the accused to the crime, which includes
CCTV footage
and a positive facial recognition test.
The parade was held in the presence of a tehsildar and five panchas, and the process involved the witnesses examining approximately 10 individuals, including the suspect. Reportedly, these individuals had almost similar physical characteristics such as build, skin tone, and height. The identification parade took place a week after the accused was taken into judicial custody.
During the investigation, on January 31, Mumbai Police conducted a facial recognition test. "Arrested accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad's facial recognition tested positive. As per the test, the person in the CCTV footage and Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad are confirmed to be the same person," said Mumbai Police.
A case has been registered under sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
