The box office is setting itself up for an epic fantasy face-off as Kartik Aaryan’s newly announced film Naagzilla is scheduled to release on August 14, 2026, the same day as Bhediya 2, starring Varun Dhawan.
With Karan Johar announcing the release of his new film, the stage has been set for a clash between a shape-shifting serpent and a supernatural werewolf, a first for Indian cinema and going by the reactions, fans couldn't be any more excited.
Kartik Aaryan Enters the Fantasy Realm with Naagzilla
Backed by KJo's Productions, Naagzilla promises is touted to be a genre-defying mix of fantasy and comedy. Kartik will be seen in the never-before-seen avatar of Preyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand, an Ichhadhari Naag (shape-shifting snake). The film will be directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba of Fukrey fame.

Kartik unveiled the motion poster on Instagram, captioning it, "Insaanon wali pictures toh bahut dekh leen, ab dekho naagon wali picture... Funnn phailaane aa raha hu main… Naag Panchami par, cinemas mein. 14 August 2026 ko."

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan had previously locked the same date for the sequel to his supernatural-comedy Bhediya. The film will see Varun reprise his role as the werewolf, thus expanding the 'Supernatural Universe' that includes the Stree and Roohi franchises.
While Bhediya 2 was earlier expected to lead the Independence Day weekend, the sudden announcement of Naagzilla has sparked speculation over a potential rescheduling to avoid a direct clash.
